Are SO important. I don't mean to sound old or anything - but one saved my life and another prevented a lot of injuries.
I wouldn't say I was exceptionally wreck-less on a bike, but I did have a LOT of fun. I raced alleycats (where I was hit by a car and rolled off the hood. Won first female but found a crack that ran all the way from the outside to the inside of the helmet after the race - saved my life), played a lot of bike polo, raced unofficial track races (responsible for the loss of another helmet - over the handle bars) and wove through traffic (ok, that was wreck-less and irresponsible. 7 traffic lights and got off with a citation and no injuries. LUCK-EEY!)
My point comes to this. Soren has two bikes. A Strider and of course, a tricycle. And he is getting brave. I mean - really brave. He's a bruiser and can take falls, but helmet wearing in this household is a non-negotiable. My dome would be scrambled eggs without one and I still feel the pain of a knee injury from another cycling accident. I know how dangerous they can be, even in the drive way.
But cycling is so much fun and I want Soren to love it too, and he does! I don't shy away from telling him just how dangerous it is to ride without a helmet. It isn't always easy convincing, but we are getting there. He tells me, 'Ride Bike! Helmet peeease! - fall, OUCH! hurt, waaaaay bad!'. Want to get something fun, check out these little nuttys!
Soren has this one - gotta figure out a way to scratch off NY and replace with OH, or QC (for Queen City).

So much light and love in this face!
Are so good for you! Packed with iron and all sorts of oxidizing nutrients. So should I be concerned if Soren eats a whole one by himself? Probably not!
They are a staple favorite in our house. Soren takes them roasted in foil and served plain. I love that his pink tongue is from a highly nutritious root vegetable instead of a lollipop (although he had one of those today as well...) .
Dinner was followed by chocolate chip cookies (Soren made), bubble bath and stories. But dinner time... dinner has to be one of my favorite parts of every day. It's my chance to share something new with him and see where he takes it. He has such a palette at 2 1/2! I hated most of the foods he will steal off of my plate at his age. He's a sucker for Indian food, loves his Green Dog burritos, the grilled cheese truck is one of his favorites not to mention the StreetPops on Main Street. And brussel sprouts. Can't keep him away!
Here's how Soren likes his beets!
Whatcha need:
3-4 medium to large size beets
foil
Pre-heat 400 degrees. Cut the stems of the beets about an inch from the top. Wash well and wrap in the foil. Drop in the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour and half. Stab the beets with a knife to test for desired softness.
When they are finished I unwrap them carefully under cold water, peel, chop and serve! So good! Even better with some balsamic vinegar and/or feta cheese.
Enjoy!
I have been reading this great book. And this parenting classic.
I ran my first 5k in years and have picked up jogging with the little guy. He loves it! We use this stroller (a hand-me-down, so lucky!) and fitted myself for shoes at a wonderful store down the street. Planning on running this Sunday at the Zoo!! Any ideas for IT band support??
I am still on the Lumenocity high with the Symphony. Work is really starting to feel more settled... in a good way. I know it's taken 7 years, but I am really finding my happiness in recording.
However, I am still a doula by late night! My profile will be here soon and you can check out my services here.
I am hoping to DIY this shelving unit soon, staining the shelves to match the refinished table (an insane DIY I chose to do this summer. Whew! However... it looks a bit like driftwood, but I love it. It's OUR's)
I love this canvas printing service and know exactly where I'd like to put a special picture of our little guy. This DIY kitchen is right up our alley. Hope to paint some cabinets soon!
Trying to stay in our budget more these days with this app. Seems to be working - Rick and I just received free admission to New York's AES convention. He's never been to the big city so I am hoping we can make this a reality - tips for hotels and such???
'Once again, a toddler is teaching me to slow down and enjoy life' - Dr. Sears from The Discipline Book .
This book has been amazing. I wish I would have read it before Soren was born. Although we opted for attached parenting anyway (co-sleeping and all!), this book has great insight into the way our young (to 10) year old children think. I don't know that I ever gave Soren the credit he truly deserved. He's willful, lively and energetic. I admire his tenacity during play and learning. He won't be interrupted (but re-directed *wink) and he will always be questing for something new and inspiring.
I love and cherish his spirit.
