CO2 Experiment

This experiment went well the last time.

My first attempt failed. There was not enough CO2 transferred. I know this because the matches did not go out. The matches stayed lit because it feeds on O2. CO2 smothers the fire.

The second and third experiments were a success because we shortened the straw. This transferred more CO2 to the glass successfully.

The experiment was making CO2 for my earth atmosphere/greenhouse because there is plant life inside.

We used:

  1. Baking Soda

  2. Vinegar

  3. Cup with a lid and hole (for straw)

  4. Straw

  5. Glass to transfer and observe CO2

  6. Matches to prove CO2 presence and density

Atmosphere Observation

So far the Aloe plant is almost dead.

But the grass has grown 7.5 inches.

My hypothesis is still the same. The grass is taking most of the resources.

Also I think that since the plant is still in a cup it can not absorb most of the nutrients it needs.

Driving Question

My Driving Question - how is the Earth’s Atmosphere created?

I will answer this question by making an atmosphere myself, by researching and watching documentaries. The materials I am going to use are:

  1. Gravel and Heater - core

  2. Orbies (super-absorbent polymers) - inner core

  3. Sand - outer core

  4. Sand - Mantle

  5. Soil - Crust (MOHO)

  6. CO2 - Mesosphere

  7. Spray bottle - Rain

Just a review, these are the layers of the earth:

  1. Crust

  2. Mantle

  3. Outer Core

  4. Inner Core

I hope the living organisms live through the experiment.
