Your Mom gives you a sewing machine.
Well - buys a NEW sewing machine. Life has been a little nutty around these parts the past couple weeks, and that is putting it mildly. To distract me from my currently messy life, I decided to dive into Soren's costume this year.
Initially the little man wanted to be C3PO - not quite sure how he became familiar with the character, but none the less that is what we were planning on creating. THEN, he decided that Batman would be pretty cool. And since Soren is only familiar with the Lego character Batman - his idea of the Dark Knight has a yellow face and severe eye brows. So we rocked it.
Soren has his first Pre-K classmate B-day party this weekend and of course the theme IS: you guessed it - Lego Superheroes. I thought - how perfect! even more of an excuse to start diving in early!
Last year, I made Soren a stegosaurus costume on the my mom's first machine. I love that machine, really I do. But I started with my first stitches and couldn't get through! On par with my daily challenges these days. I tried different needles, thread, tension - you name it. Finally I called my Mom in a panic. 'I have 25 dollars of knit fabric and I can't do anything with it!'. She'd had it.
My Mom calmly explained 'Sweetie. That machine is 37 years old! I am so glad that you've been using it, but I am buying you a new one.' And that was it. She called an order in for a Singer Heavy Duty Basic, I went to pick it up and zipped out Soren's cape and hood yesterday (with his help, of course). I could barely peel it off of him for a bath last night. And I can't wait to dig into new projects now available to me with this machine. I never knew sewing could be done with such ease!
Success. Thanks Mom.
