Saturday Morning

I love Saturday mornings!  I am almost always off on Saturday mornings.  My work schedule is all over the place, working 6-7 days a week and I typically miss mornings with the little man, although I occasionally get some.  Even Sundays get hectic when I have gigs in the early afternoon.  But Saturdays are mine!

There is something about Saturday mornings that sets it apart from the others.  Maybe it's because I work in the evening - so I know I have to take advantage of our us time (Rick is usually taking this opportunity to snooze.  I don't blame him...).  So this morning we toddled around.  Played trucks, snapped photos and invented a new treat 'sweet bread' (sprouted whole grain bread toasted with unsalted butter and honey...mmmm - served with a healthier side of clementines of course).

I never really knew during the pregnancy how much fun being a mother would turn out to be.  Every day it's something different... and everyday - you fall more in love. With that little person you brought into the world, with the partner that stood by through pregnancy, birth and parenthood and the family you've come to know as 'your own'.

Today's word is 'orange' - that is, according to Soren.  Happy Weekend Everyone!

Borrowed

A borrowed intention and photo...

Most good things happen without a plan: friendships, falling in love, finding a job, and so on. If you want to make your new year count, you’ll need to be intentional — not by setting goals, but by making space in your life for what really matters.

Resolutions

It's that time for New Year's Resolutions!!  For years, I have defiantly not made resolutions because I always thought they were cheesy - or terribly romantic.  Now that I am a mother and realize just how fast life is moving, I think it's time to pick up on a yearly favorite.  Here are few of mine:

1.  Be more patient.  I have seen this one flying around quite a bit on the blog-o-sphere.  But really - I need to learn to be more patient.  I have always been about the moment, instant gratification.  It's time for me to relax, plan and allow things to happen in a timely fashion.  That leaves me more time for my family.

2.  Work on a hobby.  Mine is photography.  I want to learn more about using my new camera and some more fun tricks to use in Elements.  I have had a blast so far - but I have much, much more to learn.

3.  Get back to school.  I start my Doula certification in February and should be starting school at Cincinnati State in their Nursing program.  Here's to a long journey back at school while balancing work and my family.

4.  Yoga.  I have gotten a little better about this since my fight with stress and skin reactions.  But I really need to get back into the habit.  Soren has been joining in too - which is even more incentive to get moving and flowing.

So there are four.  What are some of your resolutions for the upcoming year?

'A portrait a week of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013'

After finishing my blog reading yesterday, I kept running into this wonderful photo project, I couldn't help myself.  I had to join in.  I have a couple weeks to catch up, and those posts will come soon after.  Here are the three wonderful mommas and their adorable kiddos that inspired me to start this segment:

PETITE BIET

These ladies are totally worth following - they are great authors and very inspiring (not to mention their fantastic fashion sense!)  I think this project will be a wonderful segue into my scrapbook - with Project Life!

Here is the first: 01/52

I love this pic.  We were taking photos - as usual.  A lot of those will show up.  Whenever I grab the D3100 - he has to have his Pentax.  Love this guy!

Tradition

Maybe it's the holidays or just that Soren is getting old enough to recall (I don't say remember...I don't think memory really begins until about 3 or 4ish... right?) .  But none the less, I have been reading about traditions.  Other peoples, cultures - even my families.  I think it might be time to start some of our own.  Like:

1. Soren's new ornament every year - that he picks out.  This year - he chose and adorable fabric owl for the tree.  He picks him out every morning and carries him around the apartment.  This lead me to another.

2.  The Big Tree Plantation visit.  Every year - we visit this spot to pick out the perfect tree for our family.  We had such a blast this year, how couldn't we go back???

3.  Reign in the New Year.  New Year's Eve is the only holiday evening my family will have together this year.  Why not make a tradition out of it?  Let's reign it in together with great food and confetti!

4.  Ceremonial Holiday Wrap-Up.  We will take our Holiday decor down the next day in celebration of the New Year which is bound to be full of great New Memories!  When Soren is old enough, we will write down our New Year's hopes and dreams and store them away to read every New Year.

5.  Reed & Barton.  This is our first, given to us by my Grandparents: Gigi and Gipa.  These are classic Snow Globes and I think our family should pick one out every few years.  They are beautiful and come in all shapes and sizes - Soren really seems interested in the one we have now.  Might have something to do with the Choo Choo...

These are just a few ideas.  We will see if any of them stick.  Cheers - to the New Year!
