The many faces of Soren P. I think this will be our theme of this year's 52. A third year calls for a theme, don't you think? Happy New year everyone!! Here's to 2015 and all that it will bring!
Even typing that word is liberating.
I've had a lot of discussions about this lately. Vulnerability.
Brené Brown, a research professor, discusses this in detail in several videos (found here and here - the video above is about empathy, it will give you an idea of what your getting into - not to mention brilliant). A friend introduced me to her (thank you, you know who you are...).
Honestly - the first video through, I wanted to scream 'get out of my head!' thinking I was absolutely in line with this train of thought. My family notoriously criticizes me for wearing my heart on my sleeve - being too honest and open (another word for vulnerable in my opinion). Which made me think instantly - wow! aren't I whole-hearted and on the path to happiness?! Ha!
Eh! Wrong! Then I realized maybe I haven't been in all my relationships. More specifically, budding ones. What am I so afraid of? Why are things so different all of a sudden? Now, granted - not all of them have been like this, just a few. But still, this change in my behavior is alarming to me.
It's like this little voice in the back of my head guiltily saying 'don't be vulnerable - don't be whole-hearted' like I am not 'worthy'. But here's the thing. I am. We all are. And 2015 - you are in for a whole lot of worthy vulnerability, because if there is one thing I am committed to being for myself and my son - it's whole-hearted.

To say we had a great time in St Louis would be a gross understatement. Soren had a blast at his Grandpa and Mimi's exploring the land. Of course until it got 'too cold, momma!'. I adore my family and it's great seeing Soren love up on everyone and be as excited as I am. 52 soon to come! Happy Holidays everyone!
Oh my goodness! I haven't written on of these in AGES.
This one is subtitled - Sorry Soren, I will cover you in smooches forever.
Now, I definitely wasn't one of those kids afraid of showing affection towards my parents growing up - but once I entered the the teen years I DID have my moments of 'stop, mom - that's embarrassing!' in my pre-pubescent hushed tones.
Sorry Soren - you will get it too. But now I do. Mom, Dad - this is my apology. I understand the desire to smooch your child's face - at any age and ALL the time. I love you and you can now smooch mine whenever you please.
Motherhood has been an incredible, unexpected gift and pleasure. Soren had his holiday show this past Friday and both Rick and I were mush. He was so confident and attentive - we were blown away. And not that we wouldn't necessarily expect these things, it was the joy and pride he took in it that melted our hearts (and his undeniable cuteness).
We love you bubs. More than you will know until you have brood of your own.

49/52: I can't even begin to describe Soren's enthusiasm for school. Serious amounts of pumpitude in the morning. I love it! "what are you going to do in school today bubs?" "Works, momma! Lots of works!"
50/52: Soren had his holiday show on Friday and allowed me to snap some shots of him all hammed up. Suit and peacoat, He was so dapper. The show - speechless. A lot of mom and dad heart melting moments. We were a mushy mess.
*serious goofball. Love him! PS - I may have made that coat... momma brag moment.
